Troy Miller has two earned degrees in construction management — a bachelors of science degree from Brigham Young University (1999) and masters of science from Colorado State University (2004). Troy has taught construction management courses at the university level for twelve years (9 years at Brigham Young University Idaho, and 5 years at Colorado Mesa University).
Prior to teaching, Troy worked in the construction industry as a project coordinator, project manager and estimator. Projects included schools, churches, retail box stores, resort and luxury homes in Sun Valley, Idaho. Since 2003, Troy has provided various ‘professional construction services’ to the construction industry. Troy has also designed, drawn and built three personal residences, performing much of the ‘craft’ labor.
PHILOSOPHY
Troy accepts that the primary objectives of construction project management are ‘quality’, ‘cost’, ‘schedule’, ‘safety’ & ‘environment’, or in other words: the project team strives to deliver a project at or above the specified standards and perceived quality; at or below budget; on or ahead of schedule; providing and maintaining a safe project site; and having the least possible impact on the natural environment. It is also recognized that an interdependence exists between each objective and that not all project owners value the objectives equally nor in the same hierarchy.
